Song of Daisy Buchanan

By Jiashan Li, aged 17

Tom Buchanan gave me all I needed

for the basis in Maslow’s hierarchy:

food, drink, and plenty of money.

“You never loved him,” Gatsby told me.

Say, you never loved him. Yes, I never loved…

anybody.

In my life I have been in the arms of many.

All of them praised my physical beauty.

I am a sick angel, wings full, heart empty.

Car crash in Chicago, car crash in New York City

Two accidents revealed Tom’s two mistresses. Oh,

Let the promise of take care of me go to hell with him.

But I can’t swear because I am a good-mannered lady,

So I weep and continue giving smiles to everybody.

I know. I know because I am Harlow’s monkey

lying in the wire arms of my sweet mommy.

I am cold, lonely, but happy, yes, really.

Call me Daisy, or see me as the money.

I loved Tom Buchanan and Jay Gatsby,

both or neither doesn’t make a different to me.
