Chemistry

By Kevin Ma, aged 17

In summertime, our love is sweet, like ester* floating in the breeze.

In wintertime, our love is warm — it diffuses from head to toes.

If skies are blue, our love is constant — two people remaining unchanged.

If thunder rolls our love is charged, a spark of power is thus created.

When spring flowers bloom, our love is vibrant, like red petals on the roses.

When autumn leaves fall, our love is luminous, shining bright like a perfect crystal.

From Mole day till Pi day** our love will continue to entangle.

From season to season I love you always! My one, my only, my love.

* ester | ˈɛstə | noun Chemistry an organic compound made by replacing the hydrogen of an acid by an alkyl or other organic group. Many naturally occurring fats and essential oils are esters of fatty acids.

** Mole Day is celebrated by chemists annually from 6.02 am to 6.02 pm on October 23rd, Mole Day commemorates Avogadro's number (6.022 x 1023), which is the number of atoms in exactly 12 grams of carbon-12 (one mole)

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.
